The Malhar Group Music Circle of Ontario is a not-for-profit charitable arts organization dedicated to the sole mission of promoting Indian classical music and musicians.

The Malhar Group operates in Southern Ontario of Canada and holds frequent musical events of excellent standards. The group is focused to create opportunity for all to listen to and to learn about this great musical heritage in its traditional forms.

Since 2001, The Malhar Group has been trying to meet its objectives mainly by the following programs of activities.
  • House Concerts: These are typically Baithak style events with 40-60 people in attendance. The artists are mainly visiting from India and are quite happy to perform in front of a small but informed audience where they can actually feel the seriousness of the listeners.
  • Lecture-Demonstrations: Another method of education and promotion employed is to hold a lecture-demonstration on a specific topic by an artist with a good ability to articulate the subject. Several such lecture-demonstrations have been held including Sitar, Tabla, Dhrupad and Khayal.
  • Listening Sessions: These are very small (10-15) number of music lovers gathering informally to listen to music organized by a specific theme in mind. Although the group meets informally but the planning behind the event involves a lot of prior research and organization and the presentation session itself is of serious nature.
  • Festivals: We organize a music festival during Spring. These are series of performances presented in a group to the audience.
